Responsible Care® is a spontaneous activity within the global chemical industry to promote the safe handling of products from laboratory development to production, distribution, use, and ultimately, destruction. Its decision-making process involves public participation. Responsible Care® started in Canada in 1987 and has now expanded to 45 countries. Responsible Care® has developed six management rules to bind companies to improve their corporate behavior in the areas of environment, health and safety. The six codes cover all aspects of corporate business activities, including a complete set of management implementation principles to constrain all aspects of a product's life cycle. The global chemical industry community has made Responsible Care a prerequisite for members of industry associations to strengthen mutual responsibility.
